So, this was my skin at the range the other day…
… And that leads me to this week’s poll:
This particular Glock 19 is practically new (less than 200 rounds through it). Right now, this 5- and 6-o’clock ejection thing is just happening on this one gun. Or at least, it happens most frequently and noticeably on this one gun. However, I have had this issue on other handguns before, albeit to a much lesser extent. Any of my guru-tastic readers care to offer a little diagnostic advice? My epidermis and I would greatly appreciate it!
From what I can gather, Glock changed the design of their extractors at some point (the time varies depending on the source) with extraction/ejection issues on many guns the result. Why they did this is beyond me; and once it became a known issue, I’m clueless why they didn’t return to the older design. I’m not a Glock fan (I feel like I’m holding a 2X4) but every one I’ve shot ran like a Timex.
Of course I suppose you could be (as they say on the ‘net) holding it wrong. Lol
Yeah, I’ve heard about the design issues. And I forgot to mention it in the post, but this is a Gen 4. In my opinion, grip has always been my biggest weakness. But I’m starting to think a new extractor might be helpful too. Thanks for chiming in, Mike!
Apex FRE extractor, along with a 30274 ejector, if you don’t already have one, and a spring load bearing (Glock part SP01176) are the recommended cure for that. It helped me a good bit with brass to the face, but it’s not out there as a 100% solution. That’s about $75 in parts, so I’d entertain less expensive suggestions first if that’s a big deal
Thanks, Sarah! I’ve always been hesitant to get too creative on aftermarket parts, but lately I’m starting to see the benefits of a little tinkering in moderation.
I am honestly not big on aftermarket myself, but Apex has some pretty solid engineering behind their parts, and they take pains to keep factory safety values in place. I’ve seen some (not everyone else, but some) other aftermarket brands that make Glock triggers non-dropsafe. In case anyone is wondering, I have no skin in the game with Apex, just a satisfied customer.
