“My thought was, okay, I’m probably going to die anyway, so let’s go. I’d rather die being active, trying to get him down, than simply sit in the corner and be shot.”
One post that sparked a good bit of reaction from my readers was Monster. Well, here you go. I give you, Exhibit A. Might get cut up. Hell, might get killed. Or, ooooor… might save 500 people and get medals pinned on your chest. And never have to pay for a beer again. Ever. Anywhere. Just sayin’.
Anthony Sadler, Spencer Stone, and Alek Skarlatos are my homeboys. Figuratively speaking, anyway. Chris Norman too. And they didn’t even have guns.
Agree on 3rd party situations as a rule, but there are exceptions. A man running down the aisle with an AK would be high on the exception list.
As an instructor I am obligated to point out the hazards of intervening in a third party situation. However, I also usually quote Edmund Burke for the proposition that we should act sometimes both as a matter of conscience and motivated self interest. Many students stoutly maintain they will not use deadly force unless the threat is to themselves or a loved one. I certainly applaud the men here who did take action.
Point taken, SED. I’d agree that every situation is different. I certainly wouldn’t go barreling headlong into a raging inferno in every instance. I’ll give you my very best lawyer cop out… I mean lawyer answer: It depends. 🙂
HA! Well said!! 🙂
