Random out-of-context post, but it’s eating me up and I just had to get it off my chest. One: I really wish my pro-gun friends would stop calling people “libtards.” Two: I really wish my gun-averse friends would stop calling people “Nazis.” #NotHelping. That is all.
I agree with the post overall but I would posit that the use of the label Nazis is more dangerous. In addition to all the downsides that come with “othering” of the outgroup that comes with three use of libtard, i would bet it removes inhibitions to more extreme actions. After all, violence is easier to justify if one believes they’re standing up to nazis.
Amen. Name-calling does not help our/your cause. Nor does vociferous, heated, overpowering argument.
I recommend this approach instead, substituting “argument” for “advice.” Advice is like snow – the softer it falls, the longer it dwells upon, and the deeper it sinks into the mind. Samuel Taylor Coleridge
Hey Tim! Welcome aboard!!! ?
… And thanks for the lovely quote! ?
Hi Tiffany,
You’re quite correct. Mocking the gun-averse may be emotionally satisfying in using their own methods against them but I am reminded George Bernard Shaw’s admonishment against wrestling with pigs.
As to the gun-averse throwing epithets like Nazis around. Most wouldn’t know a real Nazi if one peed on their leg and are horrified to discover that Nazis are Socialists. It is a juvenile behavior. I like to ask if this is a sign that they’ve run out of ideas.

Yep, I think anyone resorting to silly personal insults is a sign of running out of ideas, regardless of what “side” you’re on.
