Fun Fact: In Tennessee, a “dwelling” for purposes of the castle doctrine includes a tent. So even if you’re homeless and living under a pitched bed sheet (or perhaps you have other reasons for living in a tent for a while), it seems the law of Tennessee still presumes you are justified in resorting to deadly force to protect your home against an unlawful, forcible intruder, no matter how temporary that home might be.
Of course, the law is never quite that cut and dry, but that’s the hook to get you started. Now go forth and venture further into the wondrous nooks and crannies of self-defense law. This fun fact and other nifty tidbits are now posted on my Gun Laws page, which I admit I’ve been slow to update (my bad). Peruse at your leisure. There will be a pop quiz!
