Letter Response: Drop the Hammer

Well, I’ve got to be honest. I wasn’t expecting our letter to get a response from long-serving Board Member and legendary NRA past president, the one and only Marion Hammer.

Unfortunately, she was very particular about which parts of her email I was authorized to share. I did reply to urge her to please let me post the entire thing. I’d hate for anyone to say anything was taken out of context. But she insisted that only certain parts of the email were “suitable for sharing,” while other parts were specially gift-wrapped and bow-tied just for lil’ ol’ me. I feel so special!

Dear Ms. Johnson,

It has been suggested to me, (by someone whose name you have attached to your letter)  that you are “agitated” that all 76 NRA Board members have not dropped whatever we are doing to respond to your impatient requests.

I generally do not respond to communications with a wide broadcast (76 people). However, since it has also been suggested to me that you are young and aggressively impatient, though well-intentioned, I decided to try my hand at communicating with you.

Candidly, <<<<<< <<<<<<<<< <<<<<<<<< <<<<<<<<< << <<<<<<<<<<< <<<< <<<<<<<<< <<<<<<<<<<<<<< << <<<<<<<< <<<<<<<<< <<<<<<<< <<<<<<<< << << <<<< <<<<< <<<<<<< <<<<<<<<<< <<< <<< <<< <<< <<< < << << <<<<<<<<< <<<<<<<<<<<<< <<<<<<<<< <<<<< << <<<<<< <<<<<< <<<<<<< <<<<<<<<< <<<<<<<<<< << <<<<<<<< <<<<<<.

Without any intention of offending you, <<<<<<<< <<<<<<< <<<<<<<< <<<<<<<< <<<<< <<<<<<<<<< <<<<<<< <<<<<<<<< <<<<<<<<<<< <<<<<<<<< <<<<<<<<<<<<< <<<< <<<<< <<<<<<< <<<<<<< <<<<<<<<<<<< <<<<<<<< <<< <<<<< <<<<<<< <<<<<<<< <<<<<<<< <<<<<<<< << <<<<<< <<<<<<<< <<<<<<<< <<<<<<<<< <<<< <<<<< <<<<<<<< <<<<<<<<<<<<< <<<<<<<<<<< <<<<<<<< <<< <<<<< <<<<< <<<<<< <<<<<< <<<<<<< <<<<<<< <<<<< <<<<<< <<<<<<< <<<<<<< <<<<<<< <<<<<<<< <<<<<<<  <<<<<<<< <<<<<< <<<<<<<<<<<< <<<< << <<<< << <<< <<<<<<<< <<<< <<<<< <<<<<<.

Again, and with all due respect, <<<<<<<< <<<<<<< <<<<<<<< <<<<< <<<<<< <<< <<<<< <<<< <<< <<<<<< <<<<<<<< << <<<<<<<< <<<<<<<<< <<< <<<<<<<<<< <<<< <<<<< <<<<<<< <<<<<<< <<<<< <<< <<<< <<<<<<<< <<< <<<<< <<<<<<< <<<<<<<< <<< <<<<< <<<<<<<< << <<<<<< <<< <<<<< <<<<<<<< <<<<<<<<< <<<< <<<<< <<<<<<<< <<<< <<<<<<<< <<<< <<<<<<<< <<<< <<<< <<< <<<<< <<<<< <<<<<< <<<<<< <<<<<<< <<<< <<< <<<<< <<<<<< <<<<<<< <<<<<<< <<<<<<< <<<<<<<< <<<<<<<  <<<<<<<< <<<<<< <<<<< <<< <<<< <<<< << <<<< << <<< <<< <<<< <<<< <<<<<<<<<< <<< <<<<<< <<<<<.

Your basic request,

“that any Board member, officer, or staff member who has a personal, financial, or fiduciary interest in, or fidelity to, Ackerman McQueen (or its subsidiary and affiliate companies) — as an employee, contractor, paid consultant, vendor, client, etc. — be required to recuse himself/herself from discussing and voting on this resolution.”

although redundant, has merit and I believe is well-intentioned.

Therefore, let me assure you that I have no personal, financial, or fiduciary interest in, or fidelity to, Ackerman McQueen (or its subsidiary and affiliate companies) — as an employee, contractor, paid consultant, vendor, client, etc. so I will not recuse myself from voting.   Further, if the good Lord allows me to be present when a vote is taken on the resolution to which you refer, I plan to exercise my vote to fullest [sic] and most appropriate way in the interest of the National Rifle Association and it’s [sic] members.

It is my sincere hope that I have not offended you but rather <<<<<<<< <<<<<<< <<<<<<<< <<<<<< <<<<<<<< <<<<<<<< <<<<<<<< <<<< <<<<<< << << <<<<<< <<<<<<<<< <<<< <<< <<<< << <<<< <<<<< <<< <<<< <<<<<<< <<<<< <<<<<<< <<< <<<<< <<< <<<<< <<<<<<< <<< <<<<< <<<<<<<< <<< <<<<< << <<<<<< <<<<<<<< <<<<<<<< <<<<<<<<< <<<< <<<<< <<<< <<<<<<< <<<<<<<< <<<<<<< <<<<<< <<<<<<<< <<< <<<<< <<<<< <<<<<< <<<<<< <<<<<<< <<< <<<< <<<<< <<<<<< <<<<<<< <<<<<<< <<<<<<< <<<< <<<< <<< <<<<  <<<<<<<< <<<<<< <<< <<<<<<<<< <<<< << <<<< << <<< <<<< <<<<<< <<<<<<<< << <<< <<< <<<< <<<<<<<<< << <<<< << <<< <<<< <<<<<< <<<<<<<< <<<<<<<< <<<< <<<<<<<<< << <<<<

I’m sure <<<<< will confirm for you the sincerity of my message.

Marion P. Hammer
1 of 76 NRA Board Members

Well, bless her heart! Quite a charming person. And so generous with her time, not only deigning to respond to pesky constituents, but even sacrificing additional precious moments to offer me such personal thoughts on such personal things — and all with the “sincere hope” that she would not offend me. Ah, the audacity of hope.

Keep hope alive, Ms. Hammer. Keep hope alive.
